The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Materials and Computational Sciences Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to to develop stable colloidal dispersions of carbon nanotubes for integration into photovoltaic devices. Job duties and responsibilities: We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop stable colloidal dispersions of carbon nanotubes. In particular, the advancement and improvement of an aqueous spray deposition process for the formation of carbon nanotube networks and the development of new inks for carbon nanotube deposition are of interest in this multidisciplinary project. The successful candidate will use existing processes and develop new processes for dispersing carbon nanotubes in a variety of different media, e.g. aqueous and non-aqueous dispersions with and without surfactants or with novel surfactants. These novel inks must be tailored to be compatible with specific photovoltaic materials to enable the use of the networks in new applications and new device architectures. He/she will work with others to perform extensive characterization on the deposited networks and finally integrate the carbon nanotube networks into a variety of device structures. Significant interaction with internal and external collaborators is required, and the applicant must be amenable to working in a large and diverse internal research team. The applicant will be expected to produce high quality scientific publications and presentations, and may have the opportunity to patent some of their work. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm for learning new subjects, excellent collaborative skills, creativity, and an interest in commercialization. Minimum Qualifications: Must be a recent Ph.D. graduate with in the last three years. Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, materials science, or related field. Candidates are required to have good communication skills in English. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the solution phase dispersion and processing of carbon nanotubes, large-scale spray deposition, and ink formulation will also be considered.
