The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL’s Silicon Materials and Devices Group in the National Center for Photovoltaics has an immediate opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for up to three years.

Job Duties: The Silicon Materials and Devices Group develops new materials and devices for renewable energy and other applications, with projects ranging from basic studies to device applications. The postdoctoral scientist will contribute to our innovative R&D to understand and improve thin-silicon materials and the solar cells made from them, with special emphasis on advanced light trapping and quantum confinement effects. Materials studied will include amorphous silicon, novel crystal Si film layers on inexpensive substrates, and
nanostructured Si materials. Specific duties include: Collaboration with Group scientists in the planning, analysis, realization and interpretation of basic scientific experiments on these film Si materials. Measurement of transport and optical properties in semiconducting films, treated Si wafers and devices. Development and application of cutting-edge experimental and modeling
techniques. Publication of results in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Presentation of work at scientific conferences and review meetings. Adherence to NREL’s high safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a recent Ph.D. graduate with in the last three years.

Preferred Qualifications: A thesis or publications on silicon based semiconductors, light trapping, semiconductor quantum dots, or solar cells. Experience with thin-films, solar cells, chemistry or materials chemistry, light
trapping in photonic structures, semiconductor quantum dots or nanowires,
and the ability to modify and build experimental equipment.
