The Position
In this critical position, you will be responsible for managing the capital investment projects of SolarWorld in the USA. This high-impact position will be focused on the build-out of our manufacturing capacity in the USA for end-to-end integrated solar photovoltaic manufacturing from Crystal Growing through Solar PV Modules.

In this role, you will act as a high-level individual contributor as well as lead a group of project engineers (project/ industrial/ equipment engineers) and other technical personnel to guide capital projects. You will be involved in initial planning (layout design), specification of production equipment, collaborating with peers (production, facilities, engineering/technology, purchasing, accounting, controlling), developing, controlling and reporting budgets. This position will be embedded in a global capital expenditure project management structure and you will work closely with counterparts at other SolarWorld sites in order to develop a sustainable project management structure. You will drive standardization for equipment specifications and RFQ processes as well as determine strategic targets for future production technologies and R&D milestones related to capital expenditure projects. Together with purchasing, this position establishes and maintains strategic relationships with equipment vendors. You will exercise, management and technical skills as well as leadership capabilities to meet aggressive growth targets.

Specific deliverables associated with this position include:
• Overall management of all SolarWorld US capital expenditure projects.
• Ongoing standardization and management of defining technical targets, developing technical specifications and structure RFP processes.
• Coordinate and support installation/commissioning and ramp up - in collaboration with production, equipment engineering, facilities and purchasing teams.
• Act as a high-level and central interface between SolarWorld US and all equipment vendors.
• Work with Controlling to determine targets for future factory trends as well as working with R&D / Engineering for production technology developments.
• Benchmark and analyze the actual status of existing factories by means of industrial engineering - in collaboration with Controlling and Production departments.
• Work internally with your peers in a global project management structure for SolarWorld’s global capital expenditure projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering, technology or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree in a related field (e.g., MBA, PhD) such as Industrial Engineering is preferred.
• Advanced functional expertise in a similar role, evidenced by at least 5+ years of experience in managing capital expenditure projects, technology deployment and strategic R&D, preferably in the solar industry or research.
• Prior leadership / people management experience is required. This experience can be in the form of direct reports and indirect reports from complex projects.
• Must possess strong project management skills. Preference for demonstrated expertise with a specific project management methodology and tools (e.g., MS Project, Cadence)
• Must have a clear working knowledge of purchasing strategies as well as controlling and finance procedures for managing capital expenditure projects according to budgets.
• Must possess advanced computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Power Point, Word, MS Project) and be familiar with CAD software applications. Specific software experience should include Excel, MS Project and AutoCAD.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives by working in and with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams and must possess excellent communication and mediation skills.
• Preference for entrepreneurial drive and prior experience with startup companies or new business division launches.
• Strong general engineering and (solar) technology background including production equipment and technologies, facility/utility systems.
• Preference for strong working knowledge of MES and ERP technologies utilized on highly-automated/ highly-integrated and high-volume manufacturing floors.
• Must possess a valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
