Start up advanced battery company that is focused on developing and commercializing new, innovative and disruptive battery products through a new family of chemistries for both primary and secondary batteries. SUMMARY: This position is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary development team through design, development and commercial introduction stages. This position will play a critical role in developing strategies for the design, testing and qualification of cell prototypes and will manage the execution of these strategies through direct oversight of all laboratory and engineering activities associated with cells and batteries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DELIVERABLES: Tasks will include: • Engineering Leadership, Problem Solving • Managing component design, fabrication and testing of new batteries • Leading technical teams including production and test technicians • Providing direction to other senior engineers as well as materials and parts suppliers • Delivering PowerPoint presentations to Board Members, Senior Management, and customers to communicate progress QUALIFICATIONS: • 7 to 10 years experience in multi-disciplinary product and technology development and commercialization in the battery industry. • It is required for the Director of Engineering to have led the development effort in at least one entrepreneurial technology start-up company and scaled the technology from concept thru product development and to a successful product launch. • Advanced degree in Engineering required; (chemical, electrical, mechanical) • Outstanding management and leadership skills required. • Ability to provide direction and achieve milestones on time and within budget. • Ability to create a strong team environment throughout the company. • Strong written and verbal communication skills required including high skill levels in technical presentations and the ability to communicate as required with third parties. • Willingness to relocate to the Southern California area and travel on company business as required.
