Senior Superalloys Metallurgist Primary activity is to specify, select, and develop non-ferritic metal alloys for high strength and wear resistance in high temperature sliding and impact applications. Other activity involves metal matrix composites, powdered metal materials, ceramics, and coatings to meet target chemical and mechanical specifications in automotive fuel injectors. This is a hands-on position focused on fast-paced, results oriented, engineering development of materials for our high performance fuel systems. • High temperature/high strength non-ferritic metal alloys and material selection and evaluation • Specify and develop anti-wear coatings • Metallography sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching • Participate in development of metals manufacturing welding and coating processes • Perform chemical analysis using in-house facilities and out-sourced services • Specify and develop thermal barrier coatings • Select materials for high temperature thermal and/or electrical insulation • Develop in-house analysis processes and procedures for R&D and for manufacturing Quality Control • Sample analysis using optical and SEM microscopy Requirements Education: MS or PhD in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science • MINIMUM of 10 years directly related work experience in aerospace, automotive, or petroleum industries • Experience with high nickel / cobalt alloys and/or stainless steels is a plus • Solid understanding of corrosion and chemical/catalytic activity of metal alloys • Experience with development and application of metal coatings and heat treatment • Experience working with both traditional machining/fabrication processes and new processes is a plus About Us Transonic Combustion is a high tech startup company commercializing a revolutionary fuel injection technology and related components for vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
