For additional information please view our website at http://fraunhofer-cse.org About the Position: The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for a Building Scientist – Building Enclosures Lead to join its Building Energy Efficiency Group. This is an exciting and highly visible opportunity to work with one of the world’s leading research groups, including our partners at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), to develop, model, test, and evaluate cutting-edge building efficiency solutions for a wide variety of clients. You'll be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology. Principal Responsibilities: • Will act as Principal Investigator for testing the heat, air, durability to the elements and moisture transport through building envelope materials and systems • Interface with clients and the international Fraunhofer team to lead proposals to develop high-perfomance envelope retrofit systems and evaluate the performance of novel building envelope systems and components • Design, build, and commission new indoor and field laboratory test facilities to evaluate the thermal and mass transport performance of novel building envelope materials and systems. • Design laboratory and field test experiments to evaluate the thermal and moisture performance and durability of building envelope systems • Simulate heat, air, and moisture transport through building envelope materials and systems • Evaluate the heat, air, and moisture transport properties of materials used in building envelope systems and components • Present findings of studies at relevant conferences • Compose final reports and technical papers Required Experience and Education: • Demonstrated excellence in performing experimental research and development in the field of thermal science • Track record of obtaining funding for research from industry and government for research and development in the area of thermal science • Experience applying computer modeling (i.e.WUFI) to simulate building envelope performance preferred • Excellent interpersonal and written skills including publications in the building enclosure space. • Proactive leadership, analytical and negotiation skills needed. • 10+ years and Ph.D. in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science & Engineering, or equivalent experience in building construction science.
