Behavioral Scientist About Fraunhofer CSE: Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is a contract R&D organization based in Cambridge, MA. For additional information please view our website at http://fraunhofer-cse.org About the Position: The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for a Behavioral Scientist to join its Building Energy Efficiency Group. This is an opportunity to work with one of the world’s leading research groups to develop, model, test, and evaluate cutting-edge building efficiency solutions for a wide variety of clients. You'll be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology. Principal Responsibilities: • Design, develop and test experimental approaches to effectively understand, intervene, and modify home occupants’ decisions and behaviors that impact energy consumption • Work with home energy analyst to develop detailed models for how a range of behaviors and decisions influence energy-consuming end uses • Evaluate what energy-saving control measures can be automated and which benefit from human-in-the-loop, both for user acceptance and energy savings • Help develop procedures for evaluating context to inform automate vs. human-in-the-loop control design decisions • Lead grant proposals in this area, present research at relevant conferences Required Experience and Education: • Experience applying accepted social science statistical analysis techniques to evaluate the significance of different variables of interest and their relative importance, and to quantitatively assess their impact on key output variables (e.g., energy) • Strong background in behavioral science, particularly how people make decisions and what factors can successfully (and not successfully) modify behavior • Demonstrated understanding of successful behavior modification approaches for different contexts and human motivations • Ph.D. in relevant field e.g. , Psychology, Behavioral Science, Industrial Psychology For priority consideration, please send your resume, cover letter and salary requirements to cse-careers@fraunhofer.org Fraunhofer CSE is an equal employment opportunity company.
